Quicke's Double Devon
Quicke's Double Devon
The Quicke family has been farming in South West England for four centuries and the dairy has been operating for 25 years. Like all their cheese, the Double Devon is produced using traditional methods. Their herd is a three way cross of New Zealand Friesian, Swedish Red and Ayrshire sires.
Double Gloucester cheese originated in the 16th century on farms in the county of Gloucestershire in England. It was originally produced using raw milk from the native Gloucester cows, until this breed was almost wiped out by the 1745 cattle plague, after which Longhorn cows became more common. Double Devon is Quicke’s version of this classic English cheese.
Handcrafted using milk from their grass-fed cows, clothbound and naturally matured, typically for 3- 6 months. The cheese exhibits a firm, dense texture with a mellow, buttery flavour and a tangy finish. After longer maturation the cheese develops more complex flavours with nutty characters.
